Synopsis

As a writer, director, producer and star, Cooper Reff has created what looks like your groundbreaking indie drama with “Cha Cha Real Smooth,” and the sophomore character has some familiar elements. This includes young people who are stuck developmentally caught and children who convey emotions with an over-age wit, but Raiff offers an impressive mix of tones and surprising storytelling along the way. And even though his third act was a bit depressing, But the show—especially from the heartbreakingly sad Dakota Johnson—remains compelling until the very end. The fact that he’s only 25 and he’s making movies with this level of sophistication is exciting.
